Club & Circuit News

1/21/09

The Southern Archery Circuit met on Sunday, January 17, 2009 to address some business and to set the 2010 schedule.

First the circuit would like to welcome 2 new clubs, Greenway Archery Club in Fort Mill and Robin Hood Archery Club in Rock Hill.  These clubs were voted into the circuit unanimously.  On the down side, Fort Mill Bowhunters will be inactive for 2010.  They will still be a member of the circuit but will not host any 2010 shoots.  They will however host the Polar Bear shoot in January of 2011.

There were some new rules, programs and classification changes established:

1.   - All circuit shoots will include exactly 25 targets, no more, no less.

2.  - The Current “Money Class” will be modified in 2010.  It will now be called the “Outlaw Class” and will have no speed limit and no equipment restrictions.  Shooters will continue to shoot from the white stake (45 yds) and the class will continue to pay 50% with no trophies.  This is being done to accommodate archers shooting the new super fast bows that cannot be safety adjusted down to 280 FPS.

3.  - The circuit is implementing a team shoot  which is intended to encourage club membership growth and participation.  Each club will host 1 Team Shoot per year (in conjunction with one of their regular circuit shoots).  For team shoots, clubs will be awarded 1 point for each club member shooting in addition to the total of the top 3 club member scores.  At the end of the season, the points for all the team shoots will be totaled and the club with the most points will receive a trophy and cash payout.  Shooters may only compete for one club in a season.  Club membership cards must be presented by each member at registration.

9/17/09 Congratulations again to Pete Davidson for winning the 2009 Lakeview Archery Club Shooter of the year award.  This is the second year in a row that Pete has won the club award.  The award is presented to the club member who scores the highest cumulative score in three out of four club shoots. Pete won with a cumulative score of 854 with 23 12's.
8/23/09 Congratulate to Southern Archery Circuit regular, Scott Langley, for winning the 2009 ASA Shooter of the year.  Scott made an impressive showing during this, his first year on the circuit.  Great Job Scott!
8/2/09

At the 2009 LAC Annual Banquet, Joey Mullinax, Fred Shelly and Jimmy McCurry were honored.  Each were presented with an honorary Life Membership in appreciation of their service to the LAC.  Joey, Fred and Jimmy have been invaluable members of the club and have been a large part of the clubs success over the past years.  Thank you Joey, Fred and Jimmy for all you have done!

2/8/09

Lakeview Archery Club would like to congratulate Southern Archery Circuit regular, Scott Langley, for his traditional class win at the 2009 Delta Targets ASA Pro-Am in Gainesville Florida. This was Scott’s first ever ASA event but you wouldn’t know it by his performance.  With his recurve bow, Scott Scored an impressive 373 points on the 40 target course beating the second place finisher by a gap of 21 points.  Also noteworthy is the fact that the field which Scott smoked included an NFAA national champion and a IBO World Champion.

Congratulations to another South Carolina Shooter, Fred Conner of Lake Marion Archery Club, who finished with a respectable 6th place in the traditional class.

9/1/08

Fred Shelly and Jimmy McCurry were both honored at the 2008 Lakeview Archery Club Banquet. Both received a plaque of recognition for their years of unselfish service to the club.  Fred and Jimmy are charter members and are among the hardest working and most dedicated members of the club.  Lakeview Archery Club has long been recognized by peer clubs and circuit shooters as having some of the most challenging and well organized shoots around. This is much to the credit of these men.

THANK YOU FRED AND JIMMY!

9/1/08

Congratulations to Pete Davidson for winning the 2008 Lakeview Archery Club Shooter of the year award.  This award is presented to the club member who scores the highest cumulative score in three out of four club shoots. This year's competition came down to the last shoot with both Pete Davidson and Larry Davis starting the shoot with a mathematical chance to win it.  Pete won with a respectable cumulative score of 893 with 40 12's.

Pete received his trophy at the club banquet on 8/31/08.

2/11/08

Congratulation to Lakeview Archery Club member Pete Davidson who won the Bass Pro Shops qualifier in Charlotte on Saturday, 2/9/08. Pete shot last on Friday and tied for first place. On Saturday, May 5th, Lakeview Archery Club joined Lake Marion Archery Club (LMAC), Traditional American Bowman (TAB), The South Carolina Bowhunters Association (SCBA) and other organizations in supporting the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) in South Carolina.

25 Archery Students from Mid Carolina High School in Prosperity South Carolina won the NASP State Finals and were invited to the Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky.  Unfortunately, due to lack of funds, their participation was questionable.  The school provides their equipment but travel expenses (transportation, lodging and food) are left up to the competitors.  However, archery enthusiasts and organizations  from all over South Carolina are stepping up to send these kids to Kentucky.  Lakeview Archery Club (and others) met the $100 challenge laid down by Lake Marion Archery Club.

Now, Lakeview Archery Club would like to extend that challenge. If your club, organization or you as an individual would like to  make a contribution, in any amount, to the Mid Carolina High School Rebels in their bid for a national NASP championship, contributions can be sent to:

Jason Long (NASP Instructor)

c/o Mid-Carolina High School

6794 US Hwy 76

Prosperity, S.C.  29127

The competition is June 9th so send you contributions today.  Remember, NASP is the future of our sport.
